Today we honored the extraordinary legacy of Dr. Alice McPherson at the annual Retina Research Foundation Luncheon. Her profound impact as a pioneering woman leader, retina surgeon, and mentor has touched countless lives, including mine. Dr. McPherson inspired and trained generations of capable retina surgeons, like Dr. Jaafar El Annan, whom I also had the privilege of mentoring during his ophthalmology residency many years ago! Today our Joy in Medicine Initiative (JIMI) tour brought us to the north region, where we connected with our Houston Methodist Primary Care Group. This was the largest session on the tour so far. Our physicians and APPs shared suggestions to support the culture of wellness, personal resilience and efficiency in practice. Once again, we heard that physicians get the most joy when providing unparalleled care to their patients. To do so, we embrace innovative solutions to streamline workflows and alleviate administrative burdens. And of course, our JIMI bars were a hit! They are a tasty reminder that we can bring sweetness and joy to the practice of medicine. It’s an exciting time to be part of the Houston Methodist Physician Organization (HMPO)!Today we gathered for our Annual Leadership Retreat to reimagine and chart the path forward as we continue to grow unparalleled patient care in the ambulatory setting. Our Physician Organization plays a vital role in how and where patient care is delivered. I applaud all of our speakers who shared strategies and innovations and the anticipated impacts on our clinics serving the greater Houston area. Our top priority is to enhance access to care. Access is Quality, and unparalleled quality is what we aspire to deliver every day to all our patients.I am also proud of all our 2023 Patient Experience Award winners that were recognized during the retreat in both the Primary Care Group (PCG) and Specialty Physician Group (SPG).Thank you to Shelby Hobelman Hobelman for designing and organizing an interactive retreat and Stephen Spielman for leading us throughout the day. Tonight, 130 physicians and administrative leaders from Houston Methodist Physician Organization proudly wore orange, white, and blue, and most importantly BIG smiles as we rallied together cheering along our Houston Astros.
