It was George's desire that the Foundation provide to theRotarianof the Year, or his or her designee, a Paul Harris Fellowship. George and Joy were both Paul Harris Fellows.

The Paul Harris Fellowship will be presented to the Rotarian of the Year, or his or her designee, in memory of mv wife, Iva Velma "Joy" Mikesell by a family member, if available, and if such family member is not available, then by Sandy Chapell or Barry T. Rice. George's main interest in life revolved around people. George developed many friends in Rotary and made friends wherever he went. Although he had been legally blind for the last 22 years, he played cards, listened to his radio and had everything memorized.

He, will be remembered as a remarkable person for his service and abilities. George will also be remembered for his extreme politeness and courtesies. He was also a big O.U. fan and always listened to O.U. football on the radio.

George will also be remembered for his exceptional memory. He would remember the smallest de-fails of events many years prior. You could ask him what he had for dinner on his 10th anniversary and he could tell you who was present and what he ate. His memory was as effective in his business matters and his work as an ac Dec. 17, 1999.

Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, Dec. 20, 1999 in the Colonial Chapel of Vondel L. Smith Son Mortuary, North. George was born Aug. 10, 1905 in Union Township near Belleville, KS.

He was the older son of William Herbert Mikesell and Estell Baird Mikesell. He graduated from Belleville High School on May 17, 1923. During his high school years, short distance running earned fiim many medals and he loved playing football, basketball and baseball. He entered the University of Kansas where he studied Architecture. George left the University before graduation and toured a maior portion of ham Funeral Home.

Charles was born 8-9-1909 in Sacred Heart, Oklahoma to John Paschal Anna Nelson. He founded Nelson Drilling Co. in Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1950 and retired in 1985. He lived in Duncan until 1958 when he moved to OKC. He was very active for 50 years as a Mason with India Temple of Shawnee, OK, 32nd degree Mason.

He supported the Shriners Hospital, member of OU Touchdown Club, and a charter mem. of the Petroleum Club. He was a member of Twin Hill Golf Club. He married Viae Kellogg Nelson on May 14, 1933. She preceded him in death in 1995.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Pat Wilkins, OKC, Bernita Burkhart, Arlington, TX, and Carol Barnes, Grand Prairie, TX; 1 brother, Gene Nelson, Duncan, Oklahoma; 2 sisters, Mary Houck, Chickasha, OK, Margaret Knight, San Diego, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Celestia Kellogg Jimmie tee Nelson, both of Duncan, OK. Other family members include Tom McKenna, Arlington, TX, Mike Necaise, Mansfield, TX, DeeAnn Wil-kins, OKC, Todd Sills, OKC, and David Selby Decatur, TX; several nieces 8. nephews, and loving caregivers, Sunshine Shillings Margaret Gorden, both of OKC. 7 grandchildren Tonya Wilkins, OKC, Andrea Sills, OKC, Rich Wilkins, OKC, Dana Necaise, Mansfield, TX, Denise Selby, Decatur, TX, Ty Burkhart, Dallas, TX, Jami Barnes, Austin, 8 great grandchildren; 2 sons-in-law. Vernon had two sisters brothers that preceded him in death. NEELY In loving memory of Shade Allen Neely. Shade Allen Neely, born on January 26, 1950 went to be with his Fathers on Dec. 15, 1999. Survivors include, wife.

Shelly Lynn Neely of Yukon; children, Crystal Leigh Neely of OKC and Samuel Scott Neely of Yukon; mother, Sally Hess, of OKC; and step-father, Ralph Hess; sisters, Sandra Kay Hess and her daughters, Stacy Hess and Summer Osborne of OKC, Sharon and her husband, Rudy Cypref of Cushing, OK; brother-in-law, Scott Pattan of Tampa Bay, FL. After 10 months of devastation from chemotherapy and radiation trying to overcome' cancer, he sought alternative treatment for cancer in Monterrey, Mexico. His final hope was that others diagnosed with cancer could know about this alternative choice sooner than he did. Shade graduated from John Marshall High School, 1968 and still has many life long friends from those years. He also attended OSU.

He was a member of H.O.G. and was very close to all of his Harley Davidson friends. He was employed by Unicco Service Company and often thought of them as his extended family. His family was always the most important thing to him. This included all family members near and far.

the western United Stales. He spent one summer working in Yellowstone Park and another summer he climbed Mount White-horse. He traveled to Oklahoma City in 1930 where he began working al Fidelity National Bank. He met and married Beulah Sampson on February 21, 1932. They moved to Kansas Cry in 1936 where he was employed as a bank examiner by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

He was transferred to Clinton, OK where he met Don West. He and Don formed "West and Mikesell Public Accountants" in 1943. He built a beautiful home and a prosperous business in Clinton. Beulah died on March 27, 1976. They were married 44 years.

On August 11, 1977, George married iva Velma Syrles. George nick-named Iva as "Joy" because she was the "Joy" of his life. George gave Joy the best years of her life. They moved to Edmond, OK in 1979, where they enjoyed retirement and cared for their lovely home. On December 4, 1991, they moved to Epworth Villa where they met many new friends.

George and Joy had 20 years of marriage together before her death on January 31 1998. They were a beautiful couple. George was involved in many organizations: Masons, Knife and Fork Club and Rotary. George was a member of Rotary for 54 years. In Rotary, he held every office including President.

He earned perfect attendance for 48 years until his health failed. George loved the fellowship of of Rotarians and honored the rotary Motto, "Service Above Self." According to his fellow Rotarians, George lived this motto daily. "He was always thinking of others" said Sandy Chapell. In 1987, he and a friend formed the Edmond Central Rotary Club. George started this club when he was 82 years old and personally recruited 22 members of a club that now has more than 100 members.

On Wednesay, March 18, 1998, the Rotary celebrated "George Mikesell Day" and it was there that Mr. Mikesell was presented with a trophy to honor his long service and perfect attendance. Due to his great example, The "George Mikesell Service Above Self Annual Award" was initiated. Also, in 1998 he was honored with an annual award named for him, the "George Mikesell Rolarlan of the Year Award." Rotary countant. George was very active at Epworth Villa participating in country line dancing, as President of the Men's Coffee Club, and was instrumental in getting the club started and he was instrumental in obtaining speakers for the club.

George also loved the dining at Epworth Villa and never missed a meal when he was healthy. George was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and member of the Mason's of the Clinton Lodge. George had no children, but he had many step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews who were very close to him. He is survived by his brother, Herbert Baird Mikesell and his wife, Florence of Overland Park, KS; his niece, Carolyn Kellogg and her husband, Charles of Overland Park, KS; nephews, Marvin G. Stice of OKC and Artarlin Sampson of Placerville, CA; step-daughter-in-law, Zelda Syrles of OKC; step-son, Ray Syrles of Muskogee and step-grandson, Jim Price of Edmond.

Great nieces, Myra Woods-ide and Diana Stice. Also leaving loving step-great grandchildren, Heather Price, Jimmy Price, Teri Hinds and so many other step great grandchildren too many to mention. A special thanks to George's good friends and Rotary Colleague Sandy Chapell and her efforts and in caring for George in his last illness. Thanks to the staff at Ep- worth Villa and their efforts and care for George. A very special thank you to Zelda Syrles, George's daughter-in-law, who visited and cared for Geor9e tirelessly throughout his last illness.

A special thank you to George's fellow Rotarians who named their Rotarian of the Year after George and the award is now known as the "George Mikesell Rotarian ol the Year Award" in his memory. Also a special thank you to Barry Rice and his efforts in completing George's recent gift to the Edmond Central Rotary Foundation. TATE, Casey Barton, infant son of Jeff D. Tate and PUCKETT Gena Hope McKenzie was born on May 4, 1950, to De'On Mclnroy McKenzie and Robert H. McKenzie. On December 11, 1999 she was in the arms of loving family as her precious spirit left to be with God. "God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be.

So He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eves we watched you and saw vou pass away; although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest; God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best." Gena grew up In Healdton, OK. She attended Southeastern State, Murray State, and received her registered nurse's credentials from Casper College in Casper, Wyoming. SHE WAS A CAREGIVER AND A CHAMPION TO THE NEEDY! Most recently she resided in OKC. Her gifts were many from horseback riding, playing basketball, nurturing animals and people to swimming and competition diving.

She adored her family and friends. We thank the true caregivers for such diligent" help and support through her numerous Illnesses and brief and lengthy hospitalizations. The individual for this POLK Douglas Lyons went home to be with Jesus on December 19, 1999 following a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrigs Disease (ALS). He was 50 years old. Doug was born in Oklahoma City on November 17, 1949 to Frank L. and Shirley Douglas Polk. Doug graduated from Northwest Classen High School in 1968, received his BA Degree from Oklahoma University in 1972, received his Masters from Southern Methodist University in 1973, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1977.

After graduation from medical school, he went on lo an internship at the Mayo Clinic. He returned to Oklahoma to complete training in neurosurgery. He then spent several months in London studying at Queen's Square furthering his education in neurology. After this, he joined the practice of Oklahoma Neurological Surgery Clinic, Inc. in 1983, where he practiced neurosurgery until 1996.

He Is survived by his wife, Sharon and daughters, Danielle, 15 and Alexandra, 13; his sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jon Blaschke, their children Jon and Sa-mantha; his brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Lou Ann Polk, all of Oklahoma City, His parents preceded him in death. Doug's family will remember that he put his love for the Lord and fatherhood above all else. He was never too busy lo minister to the sick and broken hearted, Even as his health failed, he welcomed anyone needing help to his home and ultimately lo his bedside, He never stopped giving. Doug wishes to be remembered most for his commitment to the Lord, to his family and loved ones, and to his community. He Initiated the federal funding and brought his fellow family practloners together to draw the plans for this facility, He served on the board of that hospital, was a life-long member of the AMA, was active In the Oklahoma County Medical Society, and also was a director of Capitol Hill Slate Bank. Dr Mclnnls dedicated his life to medicine, but still found lime to enloy playing golf, fishing and hunting.
