Job Description

How will you make an impact?

Responsible for maintaining and operating when required, all plant machinery electrical systems. Responsible for minimizing production downtime by ensuring that the equipment is in good running order at all times - achieved through the application of acquired mechanical/electrical/computer, automation and control skills, implementation of good preventative maintenance procedures and urgent response to emergency repair needs of equipment, particularly electrical/computer. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations, networking capability, and serialization.

What will you do:

  • Repair equipment and facilities on an emergency basis. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and plumbing issues.
  • Perform engineering modification and project-type work, maintenance, operates hand tools and plant service equipment.
  • Maintain logs as required.
  • Pick up parts from suppliers.
  • Complete work orders and PM sheets, as well as weekly allocation sheets.
  • Attend meetings and training seminars.
  • Update PLC programs.
  • Make modifications to equipment.
  • Maintain updated records of changes on documents such as manuals, schematics, drawings etc.
  • Perform electrical work to ESA standards.
  • Perform minor calibrations (as required).
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the site.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and reports potential hazards.
  • Perform alternating or rotating shift work as well as requirement to work during maintenance shutdowns.

How will you get here:

Education:

High school diploma/General Educational Development (GED) Certificate is required

Industrial electricians license

Certification in electronic instrumentation an asset

Experience:

Minimum 2 years of previous hands on electrical experience in a controlled and regulated environment, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment.

Experience with network cabling

Experience with computer systems

Experience with control wiring

Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Able to trouble shoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and plumbing issues. Able to perform data backups and disaster recovery operations, networking capability, and serialization (an asset). Capable of performing minor calibrations. Knowledge of pneumatic controls applied to Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) guidelines. Ability to work from diagrams, schematics and specs. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with minimum supervision. Strong judgment, problem solving and decision making ability. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English language.

Follow all Environmental Health & Safety Policies and Procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow team members, modelling positive team principles and partnering to meet project and departmental objectives. Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality systems Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about manufacturing/office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of up to 40 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity; visual acuity to operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Usually in a comfortable environment but with regular exposure to factors causing moderate physical discomfort from such things as dust, loud noise, bright lights, fumes or odour. Use of Personal Protective equipment is required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator.
